Richmond Mountain Biking

The Richmond area offers some of Virginia's best mountain biking trails, and spring is a mighty fine time to go for a ride. From technical skills parks to tranquil woodland paths, our real estate agents are excited to share some of their favorite mountain biking trails in RVA.

  1. James River Park System - 1 Belle Isle, Richmond, VA 23225
The network of trails collectively known as the James River Park System offers an incredible resource for mountain bikers in the Richmond area. In total, the system spans a loop of nearly 18 miles, including sections of several Richmond city parks and trails on either side of the James River. The trails are easily accessible from several trailheads and parking areas near Richmond homes for sale. One of the most popular spots is Belle Isle, an island on the James River with a skills park and several miles of trails connected to the mainland via a pedestrian bridge.

  2. Pocahontas State Park - 10301 State Park Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832
Pocahontas State Park encompasses more than 8,000 acres of wooded hills. The park is one of Virginia's greatest destinations for mountain biking, with three distinct trail systems for riders of all skill levels, offering features ranging from tight turns and steep grades to creek crossings and rock gardens. The longest loop, known as the Lakeview Trails, provides up to 12 miles of continuous riding. Pocahontas State Park is located less than 20 miles from Richmond and just minutes from many Chesterfield homes for sale

  3. Powhite Park - 7200 Jahnke Rd, Richmond, VA 23225
A splendid urban oasis not far from the heart of Richmond, Powhite Park offers more than 100 acres of shady hardwood forests, rolling hills, and rich bottomlands. It's all ripe for exploration, and with an extensive trail system, this park is popular among hikers, trail runners, and cyclists alike. For mountain bikers, the 2-mile singletrack route known simply as the Powhite Park Loop is the most popular, offering an exciting ride with an abundance of steep climbs and fast descents. Keep an eye out for wildlife like deer and beaver along the way.

  4. Washington Lacy Park - 13400 Woodside Ln, Ashland, VA 23005
Located about 20 minutes north of Richmond in the small city of Ashland, Washington Lacy Park is a picturesque destination to immerse yourself in the outdoors. Offering picnic areas and a meandering network of trails, the park is shady, secluded, and peaceful. While advanced mountain bikers won't find the kinds of challenges offered by some other parks in the area, the trails here are smooth and gently-rolling, offering opportunities for a relaxing hike or bike ride. Washington Lacy Park is also open to horseback riding.

  5. Deep Run Park - 9900 Ridgefield Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23233
A popular Richmond destination for outdoor recreation of all kinds, Deep Run Park offers picnic pavilions, fishing access, ball fields, playgrounds, and nature trails. The 164-acre park also has a great system of mountain bike trails. Cyclists will enjoy the winding 2.4-mile singletrack route that loops through the park—there's are also 3.4 miles of paved trails. The trails are largely created and maintained by local volunteers and are frequently being improved and added to.

  6. Encampment Loop Trail - 5001 Siege Rd, Prince George, VA 23875
